Aug 2008: After three great days fishing out of the Punta Colorada resort (but no marlin), my buddy sniper and I hired Mark to improve our odds with someone who really knows the area and how to fish for marlin. After an unbelievable morning of catching a dozen yellow fin tuna to 20 pounds and some were taken on my 9 wt fly rod, Sniper took the first hookup only to loose the stripped marlin within seconds. A second stripped marlin hit another plug seconds later and sniper began his 20 minute battle. A minute after that, a third stripped marlin took a baited hook and that one was mine. Two gringo Canadians with a double hookup! Both fish were landed and released. Estimated weight for these two stripped marlin is between 80 – 100 pounds each. Within an hour, we had our last hookup of the day at 1:10 pm and after a tag-team effort between sniper and me, with a lot of advice and help from Mark, who will also wipe the sea water spray from your eyes, we landed and released an estimated 300+ blue marlin at 4:22 pm. What a day! It’s April 2009 and I am planning my second trip with sniper and two friends for late July. I know it’s going to be another awesome trip.
